For exhaust, a Banks Monster Exhaust system can lower restriction and help control exhaust gas temperature on a tuned or heavily loaded diesel. But install a temperature gauge first and verify what the current system is doing. Filters matter more in this scenario too. The photos don't tell you whether the bulb fits your specific housing or stays in position. Auxbeam's 9007/HB5 LED bulbs are a legitimate option, but fitment is the first QC test.
I learned this the hard way. I recommended an LED bulb for a fleet truck without fitting it to the actual housing. I assumed it was the same size because the base number matched. The passenger side didn't seat correctly, and the beam pattern was useless. I now test every retrofit bulb in the actual housing before making a recommendation. If the truck carries heavy loads or the engine is modified, scenario 2 applies. Spend on instrumentation and supporting components, not just exhaust pipe. If the main complaint is dim headlights and the rest of the truck is fine, scenario 3 gives you the clearest return on investment.
What I Check Before Approving Any Aftermarket Part
In my job, a part isn't approved because a seller says it is. It's approved after it meets the written specification. Do the same before buying:
- Pull the OEM part number and compare the replacement spec. Don't rely on a listing that says the part is compatible.
- For oil filters, verify the bypass valve pressure and thread size. For air filters, compare the filter media area and gasket dimensions.
- For a fuel pump, confirm flow rating, inlet and outlet sizes, and whether the kit includes a water separator and installation hardware.
- For exhaust, check diameter changes and ground clearance. Tip style doesn't affect performance.
